What is the Charters Towers CBD Master Plan?

The Charters Towers CBD Master Plan is a long-term strategic plan that will establish a shared vision for the future of the Charters Towers town centre.

It will help identify opportunities to improve public spaces, support local businesses, enhance accessibility, celebrate heritage and create a vibrant and welcoming CBD.

The Master Plan will also provide a framework for future projects and investment decisions, ensuring the town centre continues to meet the needs of residents, businesses and visitors while supporting the economic growth and prosperity of Charters Towers.

Why is Council preparing a CBD Master Plan?

The Master Plan will help establish a shared vision for the future of the Charters Towers town centre. It will provide a framework for future projects, investment decisions and improvements that support the needs of residents, businesses and visitors.

What area is covered by the CBD Master Plan?

The Master Plan will focus on the Charters Towers Central Business District and surrounding town centre areas. Detailed project maps and information will be made available throughout the engagement process.

    Who can participate?

The CBD is a place for everyone. Everyone is welcome to have their say. We encourage residents, business owners, property owners, community groups, First Nations, visitors, young people, developers and anyone with an interest in the future of the Charters Towers CBD to participate.

How can I have my say?

Throughout the project, there will be several ways to participate, including:

    • Completing an online survey
    • Attending workshops and visioning sessions
    • Visiting pop-up engagement stalls

Will my feedback really make a difference?

What happens after the consultation period?

Following consultation, Council and the project team will review all feedback and use it to prepare a draft CBD Master Plan. The draft plan will then be released for public review before it is finalised.

Does the Master Plan mean every project will happen immediately?

No. The Master Plan will identify a range of short, medium and long-term opportunities. Implementation will depend on factors such as funding availability, partnerships, timing and future Council priorities.

Will the Master Plan include heritage considerations?

Yes. Protecting, celebrating and showcasing the unique heritage and character of Charters Towers is a key focus of the project. Community feedback will help identify ways to strengthen this important aspect of the CBD.

How will Council keep the community informed?
