Flying-Fox Management Plan
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Council is developing a comprehensive Flying-fox Management Plan to address the challenges posed by flying-fox populations in our community. As part of this process, we are seeking input from residents, businesses, and visitors to better understand the impact of flying-foxes and explore potential management options.
Council encourages everyone to participate in the project and share their thoughts on this important issue. By working together, we hope to find sustainable solutions that protect both our urban areas and native wildlife.
PROCESS TO DEVELOP PLAN
1. COMMUNITY SURVEY - NOW CLOSED

2. COMMUNITY WORKSHOP - HELD
3. DRAFT MANAGEMENT PLAN – FEEDBACK NOW CLOSED
Following completion of community engagement, which included a survey and workshop, a draft plan has been developed and lays out an approach for the management of flying-foxes within the Charters Towers Region.
The development of the Plan took into consideration various legislation and policy on the national, state, and regional levels. As native animals, all flying-foxes and their roost habitat are protected under State legislation.
Community feedback is now sought on the DRAFT PLAN prior to finalisation of the document and adoption by Council.
Feedback closed Thursday, 16 January 2025.
4. DOCUMENT FINALISED
Following the finalisation of community consultation, feedback will be collated and a draft plan created for Council consideration. Final changes, if any, will then be implemented and the plan finalised ready for adoption by Council. It is anticipated that this will occur at Council's December 2024 General Meeting.
