Flying-Fox Management Plan
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Council is developing a comprehensive Flying-fox Management Plan to address the challenges posed by flying-fox populations in our community. As part of this process, we are seeking input from residents, businesses, and visitors to better understand the impact of flying-foxes and explore potential management options.
Council encourages everyone to participate in the project and share their thoughts on this important issue. By working together, we hope to find sustainable solutions that protect both our urban areas and native wildlife.
PROCESS TO DEVELOP PLAN
1. COMMUNITY SURVEY - NOW CLOSED
Council recently undertook a survey (closed 2 October 2024) to gather the community's views on how flying-foxes affect them and to provide an opportunity to voice opinions on preferences regarding possible management strategies. Feedback received will play a crucial role in shaping the future of flying-fox management, through Council’s Flying Fox Management Plan, ensuring that Council, in consultation with the community, develops a plan that reflects the needs and priorities of the community while balancing environmental considerations.
2. COMMUNITY WORKSHOP
Further to the survey, anyone interested in finding out more about the project are invited to a Community Workshop.
The workshop will be open to all interested community members, with the following to be discussed:
- A brief National and/or State perspective to the flying-fox issue and actions taken
- The consultant's approach, including strategy summary, stakeholder engagement and insights into potential solutions with budget implications
- A summary of the survey results
- An opportunity for questions
