Proposed Change to Bureau of Meteorology Naming Convention

If you've been on Council's Disaster Dashboard to check river levels, you would have noticed that the location known to locals as Macrossan Bridge is called Burdekin River at Sellheim for Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) forecasting purposes.

Council is seeking to change the naming convention for this forecast location from Burdekin River at Sellheim to Burdekin River at Macrossan Bridge.

As part of this process, BoM has requested evidence of community support for the proposed change.

COMMUNITY FEEDBACK SUPPORTS NAME CHANGE

The vast majority of feedback received supported updating the name to improve clarity and better reflect local understanding of the location.

Based on this community sentiment, Council has endorsed the naming change to Burdekin River at Sellheim (Macrossan Bridge) and has provided a formal request to the Bureau of Meteorology to implement the update.
