Project Overview

Charters Towers Regional Council is dedicated to improving waste management within our region. As part of this commitment, we are developing a comprehensive waste strategy, and we need your input to shape its direction.

Historically, waste management improvements have been achieved through ad-hoc initiatives and responses to changing regulations, such as the waste levy and landfill licensing. Now, our focus is shifting long-term, with a vision of a sustainable future for our community. To guide this new direction, Council is conducting a survey to understand what matters most to you, the community, regarding waste management.

As part of our ongoing commitment to the residents of Charters Towers, we are exploring options to recover more waste and resources, and send less waste to landfill. As a unique regional Queensland council, we must understand your values and priorities for improving waste management in our community.

Council is considering proposing improvements to waste services, however, with geographical limitations, low population and limited access to waste processing facilities, we want you to tell us what council should prioritise. Kerbside recycling would be at an increased cost to rates, or there could be free or discounted drop-off of recycling at the landfills.
